Raimonds Updates ActiveRecord Oracle Adapter

Ruby enthusiast and friend of the ‘Lab Raimonds Simanovskis (@rsim) just released a maintenance update to his ActiveRecord oracle-enhanced-adapter, bringing it to version 1.2.4.
This will be the final version of the adapter for Rails 2, after which he’ll move it to Rails 3.
Last month, he updated ruby-plsql.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ruby in [...]

Collaborate 08 Was Great!

I must say, Collab08 went really well.  Since I was teaching and/or helping with the hands-on labs, I can’t say I got to see much outside our bit, but the people I did see expressed genuine interest and a high degree of understanding of our Fusion Middleware for Apps initiative.
Additionally, I’d like to thank OAUG [...]

JHeadstart R11 Well Received at OOW

Yesterday, I presented the upcoming JHeadstart release 11 at Oracle Open World. The room was packed, and everyone seemed to have a good time, including the presenter The numerous demo’s ran fine and seemed to impress the audience. After my demo of the JHeadstart Forms2ADFGenerator, I asked whether they liked what they [...]

Advert of sorts: Canada, UKOUG, Chile, Peru, Poland…

For all events between now and the end of the year, my speaking schedule is published on asktom.oracle.com. This post hi-lights the “international” (for me, if you live there – it is local of course…) trips I’ll be doing. You can see all of the US only trips on asktom as well – [...]

AWS Virtual Private Clouds

Looks like I’m not the only one who thinks enterprises will pay for their own cloud-based infrastructure. Today, Amazon Web Services announced (h/t TechCrunch) a new service called Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) targeted at the exact demand I see.
I should pay more attention to when I post stuff. Note to self: Friday afternoons are not [...]

New Year, New Features, New Release and a Few Tips!

I should be blogging! So much to tell you and so little time! I thought when I was first tagged for the “8Things”, that I’d use that to start blogging again, and then the second time I was tagged I was sure I would, but even the third time didn’t help… Aah well, maybe [...]

Peaking behind the knowledge curtain

After threatening for years to start a blog Martin Widlake has finally put fingers to keyboard. Some of you may recall that I am a fan of his UKOUG presentations. His writing is entertaining and insightful too. Despite his blog being called Yet Another OracleBlog he has not written much on Oracle, [...]

Apex Listener

After demoing at RMOUG using the listener, it seemed a good time to show where it’s at. Here’s a quick snap of the new way to configure it vs. mod_plsql’s notepad/vi interface. You can probably tell from the screen which webserver I’ve been using to test it.

A Good Time Was Had by All (#OTNVDD)

So OTN Virtual Developer Day has winded down, and it’s time to put your AMI instances to bed (unless you want to rack up some charges, of course).
This post is simply a thank-you to those who participated, and especially to those who offered their feedback to the Twitterverse, like @WarPsycho:

Rest assured that we will do [...]
